Bio

Jim has spent the last 25 years in our Alberta economy as a CEO, corporate/technology lawyer, investor, board director, guest lecturer, and mentor to young entrepreneurs. In those roles, Jim has had a front-row seat to a new era of innovation and disruption that is challenging how we live and how we do business.

As a technology and IP lawyer, both in private practice and as ad hoc “in-house” counsel in his investee companies, Jim has advised on IP strategy and implementation from pure R&D, through to commercialization and liquidity.

As a founding principal at an Alberta-based private equity firm, Jim led investments in companies ranging from pharmaceutical distribution solutions, clean energy, Independent Digital Media, logistics, and pure-play technologies.

Jim has also sat on and chaired private and public company boards, and has worked closely with government agencies and ministries, including leading a multimillion-dollar project supported by both federal and provincial grant funding.

Jim originally hails from Vancouver Island where he and his family like to visit every chance they get.  He does eventually get tired of putting up with the relentless taunting from the devout Canuck fans among his island family and friends, always leading him back to the C of Red!
